Jute crafts


In India jute is known as Golden Fibre and it is one of the most common raw materials for packaging and making beautiful craft items. Jute was revealed in the ancient Indian scriptures like Mahabharata and Monu Samhita. This fibre since ages is used to manufacture effective items, though in modern times, trendy decorative items, fashionable lamp shades, bags, carpets, mats, durries, shoes etc are made out of jute following the modern trend.

 

Earlier, jute was used in different parts of the world so as to make household and farm implements such as ropes, hand made clothes, wall hangings, etc before being used as a commercial commodity. The jute craft has extended in India centering the Eastern India. During nineteenth century Bengal has been producing maximum quantity of Jute all over the world. So West Bengal is known as the home of jute handicrafts from India.

 

Beside all this, Madhya Pradesh is also famous for Jute craft from Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior that include hanging lamps, baskets, flower vases, purses, table mats and footwear etc. A well-designed range of home furnishings like cushion covers, table covers, tea cozies etc are available as attractive jute crafts. Beautiful and colorful jute floorings are also made from jute. Then after, garments made out of woven jute fibre are huge in demand for its texture and design. They are counted amongst the important jute crafts. Jute fabrics are decorated with tie and dye, embroidery and block printing. Moreover, jute is also used for making baskets, beautiful toys and mats. These items are gaining popularity because it’s the cheapest known natural fiber and are 100 per cent eco-friendly.
